BUILD THE SKILLS TO DRIVE INNOVATION WITH DATA SCIENCE
In an increasingly digital world, Data Science plays a crucial role in driving decisions, innovation, productivity and success. Big Data analytics has changed the way organisations identify trends, challenges and new opportunities. This means that Big Data has the potential to bring about enormous social and economic benefits. A strategic use of Big Data will form the key basis of competition, underpinning new waves of productivity, growth, innovation and consumer surplus.
SP Jain’s Bachelor of Data Science (BDS) is a 3-year full-time undergraduate program designed to prepare graduates who can conduct data-driven investigations and visual and advanced analytics by acquiring and managing data of all types. Through this program, students will develop an in-depth understanding of data science and the techniques for analysis of quantitative and qualitative data to arrive at solutions. The BDS program curriculum is made of a blend of core, ethics and employability skills, and industry collaborated projects that give students practical, hands-on experience.
Successful BDS graduates will be well-equipped to fill the need for data expertise in various sectors such as IT, marketing, manufacturing, banking and finance, retail and healthcare. They will also be prepared to undertake graduate studies.

Students can choose to pursue the BDS program in one of the following formats:
*Students opting to study Year 1 on-campus in Sydney may have to study online if Australian borders remain closed for international students amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Note: This program is not offered in Singapore and is not approved or attested by CPE.
On completing your BDS degree, you may be able to live and work in Australia by applying for a post-study work visa**
**As an international student, you may be able to continue to live and work in Australia temporarily following the completion of your BDS at SP Jain. While graduating students can apply for a post-study work visa, it is not a guaranteed outcome of the program. For eligibility and more information, please visit the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs website.
My time at SP Jain helped me realise the importance of project-based learning. Once I shifted gears to focus on project ideas and seminars that simulate real-world settings, it completely changed the pace at which I learn and implement concepts to solve different problems.
I typically spend a lot of time cleaning and conforming data coming in from varied sources, push it to non-relational databases, perform calculations and render dashboards. Being a data scientist, data engineering is still an important aspect of my role, and making sure that all calculations are accurate helps companies make effective decisions.
At SP Jain, we learnt logical coding, MongoDB and data exploration that proved to be the most useful. The absolute important thing is self-improvement – to study new things and figure out how to solve problems. The BDS program helped us understand how to handle datasets and problem-solving.
As a Business System Engineer at Nexon, I’m responsible for designing, developing and maintaining applications software and integrations for internal solutions. We got to know about this job opportunity through Professor Aditya Narvekar (Assistant Professor – Data Science, SP Jain). The interview was rigorous and focused on logical thinking, industrial knowledge and technical knowledge.
The highlight of SP Jain’s BDS program has been the hands-on experience we get apart from the classroom learning. I chose this program because of the School’s accomplished faculty and strong industry connections. The program curriculum is brilliantly structured and includes everything one would need to build a career in technology.
I’m currently working as a software developer intern at Adaptive Investments. I was offered this opportunity in August 2020 and was introduced to the team at Adaptive by Prof Aditya Narvekar and Prof Abhijit Dasgupta. The skills I learnt at SP Jain formed a strong foundation and helped me hold my own during the initial days of the internship.
Throughout my internship, the one aspect that constantly stood out for me was the level at which we were able to apply the knowledge we gained in our SP Jain classrooms to the project. I believe that the academic structure of the BDS program has equipped us with everything essential to succeed in this role. Our curriculum focussed a lot on machine learning and data visualisation methods, and these are concepts that we could apply to my research first-hand, helping us gain favourable results.
I’m interning with Adaptive for three months as a software engineer. I’m working and learning as a front-end developer, along with other developers, and in charge of any processes/developments relating to the user interfaces of an application on both website and mobile platforms.
I am currently working as a Digital Business Analyst Intern at AI Australia. I'll be participating in developing some digital software like ChatBot and Smart Recommendation Systems that already existed in the system using Python built-in libraries, C#, and .NET Framework. I will have a chance to collaborate with the professional team of AI Australia for 6 months and get familiar with Microsoft Azure services since the company has a strong partnership with Microsoft. The school's curriculum is very practical with a hands-on approach and I believe that the training I got at SP Jain is what helped me land this internship at AI Australia just after my Year 1.
