What are the expectations set for a CSR department? How does one fulfil social responsibilities in corporate culture? To answer these questions and share industry insights, SP Jain School of Global Management’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Club organised a guest session with Neha Kayal for the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Mumbai cohort on October 31, 2020.

Ms Kayal works with Asian Paints and has six years of experience in CSR. She has completed her Bachelor’s degree from Mithibai College in Mumbai and is a certified CSR professional from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.

She explained the concepts of CSR by sharing real-life examples of the activities undertaken by Asian Paints. The company has categorised its focal areas into education, skills development, health care and water management. Some of its CSR initiatives include:

  • Providing training for painters in the unorganised painting sector to help them refine their skills and become more employable
  • Providing free healthcare facilities, full-body check-ups and medicines to the truck drivers they interact with

During the Q&A, Ms Kayal also shared that Asian Paints had donated a total of INR 37 crore in the past seven months towards COVID-relief.

The session offered students a broader insight into the methodologies of CSR and the roadmap to making a difference in society.

The guest session was organised by Saffiyah Kapadia – President of CSR Club and Yash Kapasi – Vice President of CSR Club.
